NBC Los Angeles: Hollywood in Carmel - The Cypress Inn marks the Carmel Film Festival with old-style cocktails. "Cypress Inn, which is known for its '20s-era Spanish architecture, its famous owner (Ms. Day, as mentioned), its very warm welcome of pups of all sort (courtesy of the animal-supporting Ms. Day, natch), and the Hollywood people who frequent it when looking for a low-key getaway. The hotel is launching Fedora Thursdays in October; wear an old-style, beautifully brimmed, Rat Pack-ready chapeau to the bar during Thursday happy hours."

SF Chronicle. Mixing it up with cocktails in Monterey, Carmel. More venerable establishments on the Monterey Peninsula have also been reinventing classic cocktails. Part of the Cypress Inn in Carmel, Terry's Lounge already had a large following for its dog-friendly "Yappy Hour" when it recently debuted a cocktail menu inspired by owner Doris Day's favorite costars: Jimmy Cagney (whiskey), Cary Grant (brandy), Ronald Reagan (gin), Kirk Douglas (rum). If you want to sip one for the Gipper, try the Orange Blossom ($10), made of gin, sweet vermouth and fresh orange juice, and served with a side of jelly beans — just the way Reagan liked it, according to the menu. Bartender Drago has also put a Kentucky spin to the traditional champagne cocktail, with bourbon, peach schnapps and a dash of bitters.
